Learn who we are, how we’re governed, and why MBASA has been a trusted source of support for South Australian doctors and their families since 1881.
MBASA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, made up of eight registered medical practitioners plus one person with financial or business expertise. All directors act on a voluntary basis and are usually former Presidents of AMA(SA) or invited for their expertise. The Board ensures compliance with ACNC, ASIC, and legislative requirements.
Yes. MBASA is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). All donations are 100% tax deductible, and receipts are issued promptly.
MBASA was established in 1881 and has been supporting doctors and their families in financial hardship for more than 140 years

MBASA assists:
Doctors who have practised predominantly in South Australia and are suffering financial hardship due to illness, disability, or infirmity.
Spouses and/or children of doctors who are suffering hardship due to disability, infirmity, or death of a doctor.
No. The only requirement is that the doctor is, or has been, registered with AHPRA and practised predominantly in South Australia
MBASA offers:
Short-term financial assistance
Advocacy and information
Accounting and tax assistance (through partners such as Hood Sweeney)

A confidential discussion will follow, and if applying for financial support, you will be asked to provide some documentation
Yes, you may remain anonymous if you only need advice. However, for financial support we do require identity verification. MBASA will never share your details without your consent
Requests for assistance are presented to the Board in a confidential report. The Board considers the circumstances and available funds before making a decision. All discussions are confidential and final decisions rest with the Board.

In urgent cases, MBASA can often provide support within a few days, subject to eligibility and documentation
MBASA strongly encourages all doctors to:
Hold income protection insurance
Maintain a current will
Plan financially for unexpected events
Support and Donations
Discover how you can make a difference, where your donation goes, and why your generosity is vital to helping doctors in times of crisis.
You can support us by making a tax-deductible donation. Donations of any size make a difference, and more than 90% of funds go directly to doctors and families in crisis.
Running costs are minimal as the Board donates their time and expertise. Over 90% of donated funds are directed to supporting doctors and their families.
